Why Water Pressure Is Low
Low pressure is frustrating, but it often has a simple cause. Start by figuring out how widespread the problem is.
One fixture
- Clogged aerator or shower head
- Worn cartridge
- Kinked supply line or partly closed fixture valve
Hot water only
- Sediment in the water heater
- Partly closed valve on the water heater
Whole house
- Main shut-off not fully open
- Failed pressure-reducing valve
- Corroded galvanized piping
- Hidden leak
- Municipal work or supply issue
Simple checks
- Ask neighbours if they're affected.
- Confirm the main valve is fully open.
- Clean aerators.
- Measure pressure with a gauge on an outdoor tap.
- Check your water meter for leaks.
